Troubleshooting

What to do when the terrain does not look the way you expected, and what to send us.

The terrain rises or dips beyond the lines

Past the last contour the plugin has nothing to rely on, so it has to fill in the surface there on its own. Draw a spline around the site at the height the edge should be and add it to the Splines list — the edges become predictable.

Smooth contours look angular

Raise Iteration. It controls how closely the plugin follows the bends of your splines: with a low value, tight curves get straightened out.

Nothing is built

  • If you see the message “SplineGround is not licensed on this computer”, open the License rollout and start the trial or activate your key.
  • If there is no message, check the log file SplineGround-debug.log. To open its folder, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\SplineGround\logs into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter. If the plugin found no usable splines, the reason is written there.

A large site takes a long time to build

The more detailed the survey, the longer the calculation. Try lowering Iteration first: reading the lines in more detail than the terrain needs slows everything down.

Reporting a problem

Send us:

  • the scene file, if you can share it;
  • the log file SplineGround-debug.log;
  • your 3ds Max version and the plugin version — you can see it in the Parameters rollout, on the Version line.

A scene that shows the problem is worth more than any description of it.
